Close Contact

Close Contact, for me, is an extension of my Shotokan training.
In Shotokan, not much attention is payed to grappling, either standing or on the ground. Although there are many throws and joint manipulations implicit in the Kata, most of our attention is on percussive and evasive techniques; there is essentially no wrestling.

So the question, fairly asked, is "What do you do if the opponent gets a hold of you?" Close contact is where I try to answer that.

I've studied Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo, and have some knowledge of standing grappling techniques gained from Karate as well. The Close Contact class focuses strictly on these; there is no striking involved.

The Close Contact sessions are available to adult Shotokan Karate students without extra charge, and may be attended alone as well.
